The activities commenced in the “Theotokopoulos” hall of the Vikelaia Municipal Library of Heraklion. Following the welcome addresses by the Mayor of Heraklion, Mr. Kalokairinos, and the Deputy Mayor, Mr. Gialitakis, the deliverables, works, and results of the project were presented. In the afternoon of the same day, a visit was made to the urban green areas of Heraklion, where urban greening projects were implemented to enhance the city’s adaptation to climate change. More than 52,500 predominantly native endemic plants of Crete were planted at the intervention sites.

The monitoring was completed the following day in the Municipality of Maroussi, where the LIFE GrIn team, accompanied by the respective team of the Municipality of Maroussi, visited the sites of the pilot interventions. Subsequently, the results were presented at the Maroussi Town Hall.

At this point, the LIFE GrIn project team would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Mr. Krzysztof Wójcik, Project Advisor from CINEA (European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency) and Ms. Sophia Papageorgiou from the LIFE Programme External Monitoring Team (ELMEN EEIG), for their support throughout the program and their valuable advice for its successful closure.

The event took place on 1st December 2023 in Barton Park, in Perugia and served as a platform for sharing valuable insights, guidelines, and experiences with key stakeholders in the field, including municipalities, urban planners, and green planners.

The results of the LIFE GRIN project were presented by the coordinator Dr. Konstantinia Tsagari (ELGO), by Dr. Aimilia Kontogianni and Mr. Lefteris Mystakidis (Homeotech Co.), while the event was greeted by representatives from KEDE, the Ministry of Environment and Energy and the Municipalities of Amarousion and Heraklion.

During the Workshop, the participants had the opportunity to learn about the results of the LIFE GRIN project with the ultimate goal of inspiring and enabling the replication of successful models within Greece and across the European Union, while they shared experience and good practices. Furthermore, it was an opportunity to promote cooperation between the different institutions and to create a network for knowledge exchange at European level.

Presentation of the LIFE GRIN project entitled: “Specifications for the urban green spaces management as a means of biodiversity protection in the face of climate change: the LIFE GrIn project” in the context of the event organized by LIFEGENMON for the presentation of the Application Guide for Genetic monitoring. The Green Fund, with its Board Decision 212.4.3/2021/26.05.2021, decided to co- finance LIFE GrIn project – LIFE17 GIC/GR/000029 – for the year 2021. Beneficiary of the funding, amount of 10.000€ is the Institute of Mediterranean Forest Ecosystems of the Hellenic Agricultural Organization “DEMETER”, coordinating beneficiary of the project.

The amount of co-financing is 10.000€ and will support the implementation of project’s actions.

The total budget of LIFE GrIn project is 1.763.885€. The European Union Life Financial Instrument CINEA co-finances the project at a rate of 58,34% of the total eligible costs (1.015.505€), while the Green Fund has co-financed the project until today with a total amount of 20.000€.
